Our common area has been tailored to provide a peaceful ambiance featuring tropical gardens, a heated, salt-water swimming pool with waterfalls, beach chairs and umbrellas, and a mayan-inspired palapa. By keeping the grounds as green as possible and meticulously selecting local tropical plants and coconut palms, we believe we ensured a harmonious merge with nature, rather than displacing it.
Isla Retreats is located five minutes from downtown and Playa Norte, at the beginning of the safe and charming neighborhood, Salina Chica - home to the Bachilleres High School, and the public kindergarten. Further past Isla Retreats, you will find Isla Mujeres in all its authenticity: family run convenience stores, mercaditos with fresh juices, fruits, and vegetables, and an array of local and foreign owned and operated boutique restaurants showcasing mouthwatering fusions of international, Caribbean, and Mexican cuisine, such as, award winning Rosa’s Sirena, Mango Cafe, Caribbean Garden, Caribbean Brisas, Isla Brewery, and Kash Keken Chuc Chicken.
We are situation less than one block from the ocean, but not directly on it. Most of our guests will leave in the morning to go to one of the many beach clubs - Loretta’s, Kin Ha, Mayan Beach Club, Guru - just to name a few. After, they enjoy coming back to the property in the afternoon to enjoy relaxing time by our salt-water pool and tropical gardens. There is a great company on the island that will deliver portable beach chairs/umbrellas to our property for you to rent to take to the beach with you - more information on that upon confirming your reservation.
On-site parking is available for golf carts next to the security guard’s office. The island’s main grocery store, Chedruai - where you can find imported food items, a bakery, and a nice selection of wines and liquors - is a mere few blocks away. Directly across the street from the property is a “tiendita” corner store that offers beer, soft drinks, ice, eggs, and many other basic groceries.

MONEY
Isla restaurants, taxis and most stores operate on a cash-only basis. The best way to handle this, is to convert USD to pesos. You can either exchange USD to pesos at a money exchange downtown (you may need your passport), or get pesos by using your debit card at an ATM. There is an exchange place right at the ferry where you can exchange up to $990 USD per day without your passport. You will get a better exchange rate either way than if you exchange money at the airport or if you pay dollars directly at a store or restaurant. Prices for food and drinks here are similar to prices in the states.
It is best to tell your bank before you travel that you will be using your debit card in Mexico. As in the states or Canada, there has been some fraud from the ATM machines. If you use your ATM card, keep a close eye on your bank account when you return. It is recommended to change your ATM pin when you return home.
